The Churchill Fund
The Fund That Powers Churchill
What is the Churchill Fund?
The Churchill Fund is the school’s annual giving program and an essential source of philanthropic support for Churchill. Gifts to the Fund provide flexible resources that strengthen the student experience and help Churchill deliver an exceptional education to every student, every day.
What does my gift to the Churchill Fund support?
Gifts to the Churchill Fund support the people, programs, and opportunities that make a Churchill education possible. Your generosity helps us invest in our exceptional faculty and staff, expand access through financial assistance, and enrich the academic and co-curricular experiences available to our students, including the arts, athletics, technology, robotics, and more.
Why does Churchill need annual giving in addition to tuition?
Tuition alone does not cover the full cost of a Churchill education. Rather than relying on tuition to cover the full cost of educating each student, Churchill relies on the generous philanthropic support of its community to help bridge the gap.
Gifts to the Churchill Fund provide essential annual resources that allow the school to invest in our exceptional faculty and staff, strengthen academic and co-curricular programs, expand access through financial assistance, and provide the experiences and opportunities that make a Churchill education so distinctive.
What does participation matter?
Every gift, at every level, makes a difference. Strong participation reflects the collective commitment of the Churchill community and our shared belief in the school’s mission. Together, gifts from families, alumni, alumni families, grandparents, faculty, staff, and friends provide meaningful support for our students and strengthen the Churchill experience for all.
This year, we aim to achieve 75% or greater parent participation, bringing Churchill in line with our peer independent schools across New York City.
How much should I consider giving?
We encourage every member of the Churchill community to make a gift that is meaningful to them. Gifts to the Churchill Fund range from $5 to $25,000 and beyond, and every contribution makes a difference and counts toward participation. For current Churchill families, a gift of any size counts toward our parent participation goal. For those who are able, leadership gifts of $7,500 or more provide especially important support.
Can I direct my gift to a specific area?
All gifts to the Churchill Fund are unrestricted, providing the school with the flexibility to direct resources where they are needed most. This allows Churchill to respond to emerging needs and opportunities throughout the year and invest in the people, programs, and experiences that have the greatest impact on our students. Unrestricted support ensures that every gift can be put to work where it will make the greatest difference.
What is the Churchill Giving Society?
The Winston Churchill Giving Society recognizes donors for their annual generosity to the school. Giving Society levels begin with the Promise Circle for gifts up to $499 and continue through the Discovery, Achievement, Perseverance, Resolve, Courage, and Legacy Circles, with the Legacy Circle recognizing annual gifts of $25,000 or more.
Each Giving Society level includes special benefits and opportunities for engagement and recognition, with additional benefits available at higher levels of giving. These may include invitations to special events and gatherings, opportunities to connect with school leadership, and other experiences designed to bring donors closer to the impact of their support.
What happened to the Parents Association Gratitude Fund?
Beginning with the 2026–2027 school year, the Parents Association Gratitude Fund has been incorporated into the Churchill Fund, bringing our community’s annual giving efforts together into one fund. Importantly, Churchill’s approximately 200 dedicated professionals will continue to receive their traditional holiday gifts. Families no longer need to make separate contributions to the Churchill Fund and the Gratitude Fund; one gift to the Churchill Fund supports our students, faculty, staff, programs, and priorities throughout the year.
What are the different ways I can make a gift?
There are many ways to support the Churchill Fund. Gifts can be made online, by check, through gifts of stock or securities, donor-advised funds, matching gifts, and other methods. You may also choose to make a recurring gift or fulfill a pledge over time.
Your gift may go even further through a corporate matching gift program. Many employers match charitable contributions made by their employees, potentially doubling the impact of your gift. We encourage you to check with your employer to see if your contribution to Churchill is eligible for a match.
The Advancement Office is happy to discuss your giving options, share additional information, or help with the matching gift process. Please email advancement@churchillschoolnyc.org for assistance.
When should I give?
The Churchill Fund operates on the school’s fiscal year, July 1 through June 30. While gifts are gratefully accepted throughout the year, making your contribution as early as possible helps Churchill plan thoughtfully for the programs, people, and experiences our students rely on every day.
Is my gift tax-deductible, and will I receive a receipt?
The Churchill School and Center is a nonprofit organization, and gifts are tax-deductible to the extent permitted by law. Donors receive an acknowledgment of their contribution for tax purposes. Please consult your tax advisor regarding your individual circumstances.
